What are the key outputs of your Job? (What results do you leave behind?

Plan/schedule maintenance of plant and equipment, forklifts, pea harvesters, tractors, trailers, planters and vehicles/trucks.

  • Complete maintenance costing per equipment.
  • Manage maintenance schedules, quality, and standards (DMS).
  • Manage costs and annual maintenance budget.
  • Purchase and imports of spares and consumables.
  • Manage staff and appointments of seasonal staff.
  • Conduct Invocoms.
  • Analyse downtime and implement improvements
  • Conduct and manage actual harvesting functions and activities on 24hr basis
  • Manage general maintenance functions and activities.

What are your main tasks that you do to achieve your outputs?


  • Plan seasonal maintenance.
  • Obtain and execute planting + harvesting schedules from manager.
  • Ensure critical imported spares availability on time.


  • Maintenance standards.
  • DMS, 5 S, Health & Safety and Environmental objectives.
  • Manage suppliers and contractors.
  • Quality of products harvested/ planted.


  • Attend management meetings.
  • Conducts Invocoms, SGAs.
  • Evaluate suggestions and implement CI projects
  • Attend to problems and solve as quickly as possible.
  • Spend time on shopfloor with staf
  • Provide guidance and discipline.
  • Conflict management.


  • Communicate/manage artisans and shopfloor.
  • Monitor plant & equipment maintenance actions.
  • Monitor seasonal maintenance actions
  • Monitor harvesting maintenance schedules and raw material quality
  • Monitor general unit day to day maintenance.
  • Monitor “Breakdowns” and take corrective/preventative actions.
  • Monitors top ten critical machines.


  • Check daily activity of Artisans, contractors, Quality, absenteeism, and stock movement.
  • Analyse information and make recommendations.
  • Purchase goods and stock items as required.
  • DMS maintenance program management end to end.


  • Compare actual spending weekly with budget.
  • Ensure purchase requests are within standards.
  • Create store requisitions/job cards.

What are the most complex decisions that you take? How often do you take these decisions or make these recommendations?

Continuous change of field planting or harvesting direction to optimise efficiencies. Eliminate foreign material, be able to judge crop under or over developed. 24hr basis

  • Scheduled replacement of parts during seasonal maintenance (Daily)
  • Evaluation of seasonal staff performance and adherence to policies and procedures.
  • Manage stock and imported critical spares levels.

Minimum qualifications required by the position:

Grade 12 With additional specialised technical training in especially management principals, basic budgeting and problem solving Technical N4 Artisan Advanced hydraulics Computer skills

Minimum experience required by the position:

3-5 years experience in the Agricultural landscape and agricultural practices (soil preparation/planting direction,depth,spacing,tecture/harvesting/quality assurance of FGP) Experience in Lemken Planter and PMC Harvester maintenance and practical application.
